We’re heading into the business end of the MWFA Men’s Premier League season! New league leaders Narrabeen have a bye this weekend, which gives the chasing pack a chance to close the gap, or even overtake them.
This weekend’s action is headlined by a clash between third placed CC Strikers and second placed Pittwater at St Matthews Farm Reserve. A three game winless run has seen Strikers lose top spot, so they will fight for every loose ball as they attempt to move back into first place. However, Pittwater have won their last four games – a fifth consecutive win will see them move to the top of the table.
Mosman gave themselves faint hopes of a league title with last week’s 1-0 win over Strikers, now they are only six points off first place. Their next assignment is an away game against a Harbord side coming off a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Beacon Hill. Despite the gap between these two sides on the ladder, this fixture is unlikely to be one sided as Harbord need more positive results to stay out of the bottom two.
Fifth placed Wakehurst know three points are a must if they want to sneak into the finals places come the end of the season. They travel to Terrey Hills Oval for a meeting with BTH Raiders, and the Tigers will be confident of victory after a 5-1 win over BTH earlier in the campaign.
Beacon Hill are another side trying to keep their top four ambitions alive. Manly Vale are Beacon Hill’s next opponents, and Vale will be hoping that home field advantage can propel them to a much-needed win as they look to close the gap to Harbord.
Finally, St Augustine’s meet Brookvale at Cromer Park as part of the annual Saints Ladies Day, a wonderful occasion held in memory of the late Helen Anglicas, a woman remembered fondly by both clubs. This event will run from 8:30am until 5:30pm, so if you’re in the area, head down to Cromer – you can find out more about Saints Ladies Day by clicking here.
